Nutcrackers return

Friends and family gathered Monday to unveil a nutcracker they commissioned to celebrate the career of retiring Jefferson County Auditor Patrick Marshall. Marshall spent 32 years in public service, the last 24 years as auditor. The nutcracker, made to resemble an accountant, boasts a cap, sports jacket and (nonworking) adding machine. It will join more than 150 other nutcrackers on display at Steubenville Nutcracker Village, which opens today at 3 p.m. as part of the city Lights Up the Night festivities, which will include the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree and fireworks at 6:25 p.m.
