Sunday crash leaves 2 dead, 3 injured
FREEPORT — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving a pickup truck and two motorcycles which left two people dead and three injured.
The patrol reported a group of motorcycles were traveling east on state Route 342 around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, and a pickup truck, driven by Marilyn K. DeVoy, 73, of Piedmont was traveling west. A trooper said the pickup truck went off the right side of the road, DeVoy overcorrected and the vehicle went left of center, hitting two motorcycles.
The driver of one motorcycle, Michael J. Ferguson, 56, and a passenger, Guyla A. Ferguson, 51, both of Tippecanoe, were pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol reported.
Daniel Lipscomb, 53, the driver of another motorcycle, and his passenger, Sharon Lewis, 51, both of Akron, were flown by medical helicopter to Akron General Medical Center, according to a trooper.
DeVoy was transported to Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison, according to a patrol release.
The patrol reported the Fergusons were not wearing helmets, Lipscomb and Lewis were wearing helmets and DeVoy wasn’t using a seat belt.
A trooper said alcohol use and speeding weren’t factors in the crash.
