Sheriff, deputies revive man found in bathroom

STEUBENVILLE — Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla and two other deputies helped save a man who apparently overdosed on heroin early today.

Abdalla said he went into the downtown Speedway around 1 a.m. today, and the manager told the sheriff he was having a hard time opening the bathroom door.

Abdalla said he found Daniel W. Rawson, 31, of 71 Trails End Road, Toronto, unresponsive on the floor. The sheriff said the man had a faint pulse, and he went to his cruiser and got Narcan, which he administered to Rawson. Two other deputies arrived and their Narcan doses also were given to Rawson, the sheriff’s department reported.

An ambulance arrived and EMTs were able to revive Rawson.

Abdalla said a needle was in the bathroom and suspected heroin also was found.

“I told him he was lucky this time. Next time he could be dead,” the sheriff said.

Rawson was charged with possession of heroin and possession of a hypodermic needle.
