Planning Media Day Blood Drive

The annual Jefferson County Media Day Blood Drive is set from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville. This year’s goal is to collect 40-plus blood products, according to Phyllis Riccadonna, account manager for the Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region. Planning this year’s event are, seated, from left, Regina Bratton, Red Cross external communication manager; and Bill Phillips of WTOV-TV: and back, Adam Reaves, district manager for Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region; Riccadonna; and Ross Gallabrese, executive editor at the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times. Those participating in the drive will be given a free Red Cross T-shirt, and pizza, coffee and doughnuts will be provided to donors. Donors who are in good health and showing no signs of illness can donate blood every 56 days, Riccadonna noted, and donors must be at least age 16 and 110 pounds. Sixteen-year-olds must have a parental permission form to donate blood. To schedule an appointment, call (800) 733-2767 or go to redcrossblood.org and enter JeffMedia. Donors also can use the www.redcrossblood.org/RapidPass to enter their own medical history into the system, shaving off some of the time needed to donate. WTRF-TV also is a sponsor.
