Four transported

following accident

FOLLANSBEE — Four people were transported to area hospitals following a two-vehicle collision on state Route 2 Friday morning.

The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department reported Richard Chilcote, 73, of Wellsburg, was transported by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh area hospital for serious injuries. Also transported, to a Wheeling hospital, were Darrell Eastham, 28, of Follansbee, and a woman and child in his vehicle.

The sheriff’s department said Eastham’s vehicle veered left of center near the Wabash Bridge, striking a northbound tow truck driven by Charles Richard III, 21, of Colliers.

Eastham’s vehicle then veered to the right edge before turning into the northbound lane again and striking Chilcote’s vehicle.

Both Eastham’s and Chilcote’s vehicles sustained extensive front end damage, according to reports.

The accident remains under investigation.

Water line work

to affect service

STEUBENVILLE — The city’s water customers could experience discolored water and possibly a disruption in service while crews test valves in the city’s water system next week.

The work will be done between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Airport authority

sets special meeting

WINTERSVILLE — The Jefferson County Regional Airport Authority will meet in special session at 1 p.m. on Monday to act on a recommendation for the airport manager.

The recommendation will be sent to the county commissioners for approval.

Route 7 slide

project moved

WELLSVILLE –The slide repair project on state Route 7 between Wellsville and East Liverpool has been delayed one week, the Ohio Department of Transportation reported.

The work now will begin on April 23.

One, 12-foot lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction, ODOT reported.

Shelly & Sands Inc. of Columbus is the ODOT contractor for the $2.4 million project, and the completion date is Oct. 31.

Nurse admits to

stealing drugs

STEUBENVILLE — Carol Altomare, 49, of 347 Bell Blvd., Weirton, was placed on two years of probation on Friday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr. after Altomare pleaded guilty to two counts of theft of drugs.

Altomare was charged with stealing drugs as a nurse at Life Line Hospital in Wintersville from April through May of 2017.

She faces three years in prison if she violates probation.

Man completes

intervention program

STEUBENVILLE — Charges were dismissed Friday against a man who stole drugs as a hospital employee after he successfully completed a treatment-in-lieu-of-conviction program.

Zachary K. Montero, 26, of Chester was charged with four counts of theft of drugs and two counts of possession of drugs. He was an employee of Trinity Medical Center East. The thefts occurred from December 2015 through September 2016.

Montero pleaded guilty to the charges and entered into treatment in lieu of conviction in September. He completed the program early.
