Driver arrested

after hit-skip wreck

STEUBENVILLE — City Police took into custody the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-skip accident shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday on Sunset Boulevard, near Wilshire Boulevard.

An off-duty city officer saw the accident and notified the police station. Police reported the off-duty officer followed the vehicle involved to the Dollar General parking lot off Hollywood Boulevard. The driver and a passenger tried to flee, but the off-duty officer identified himself and told the driver to stop.

Police reported James A. Acconcia Jr., 52, of 92 Basil Drive, Weirton, was charged with obstructing official business, hit-skip, no license and driving left of center.

Police reported the driver of the other vehicle involved wasn’t injured.

STEUBENVILLE — Gross sales in Jefferson County slightly decreased by nearly 11 percent in January compared to the same period last year.

Jefferson County Treasurer Raymond M. Agresta said gross sales for January totaled $77.21 million, generating $1,158,159 in piggyback sales tax revenue for the county. Agresta said piggyback sales tax receipts for January 2017 generated $1,300,619 based on gross sales of $86.7 million.

Gross sales averaged $77.26 million a month in 2015, and $69.58 million a month in 2016. Monthly gross sales averaged $72.78 million for 2017.

Traffic delayed

by accident

FOLLANSBEE — Traffic on state Route 2 in Follansbee was delayed early Wednesday after a vehicle struck a utility pole near the Johnson Towing site.

City Fire Chief Larry Rea said north- and south-bound vehicles were stopped while crews attended to a 25,000 volt power line that fell from the pole.

No one was reported injured in the accident.
