MLK Center open house

Sister Mary O’Connor, left, chats with Steubenville Parks and Recreation Director Lori Fetherolf in the gym at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center on Market Street during an open house Wednesday. The event was held to show off many improvements to the center made during the past several months, including bright LED lighting in the gymnasium. Many of the improvements were made possible with donations, including: Women’s Club of Steubenville, air hockey table and Xbox unit; Lowe’s Home Improvements, volunteers to paint the interior of the building as well as donated paint, floor finish, tools and other items; Wal-Mart, new television; and an anonymous donor, who provided funds for treadmills, an elliptical machine and a stationary exercise bike to be installed. Other improvements included new gym doors, new matting on the weight room floor, stripping and waxing of floors, new exercise mats and replacement of ceiling tiles. Upcoming improvements will include a new punching bag, wax on the activity room floor, chin-up bars for the weight room and refinishing of the gymnasium floor.
