teams advance to state

WINTERSVILLE –Three Indian Creek Destination Imagination teams will compete at the state competition on March 24 in Mount Vernon.

The Indian Creek Middle School team the Radical Puppies, coached by Natalie Ujcich and Staci Copeland, won the improvisational challenge March 3 at Union Local Schools. Teams members are Autumn Brown, Carson Copeland, Katie Donahue, Joey Foust, Ciarra Rossi, Reese Scott and Madeline Ujcich.

Also competing in Mount Vernon will middle school team the Super 6, coached by Amanda Dyson. They were entered into the service learning category and based their project on helping the homeless. Team members are Matthew Barnes, Addy Breddin, Hannah Long, Riley Tongate, Blake Turner and Ryan Voiers.

Indian Creek High School will send the Pizza-Knotz members, Abdul Ade, Michael Buzzard, Owen Price and Shawn McClug, to state competition. Their event required the use of elements of an amusement park to create a new “unlikely attraction.”

EHS winter concert

slated for March 22

RICHMOND — Edison High School musicians will offer a winter concert on March 22.

The performance, which is set for 7 p.m. in the school auditorium, is open to the public, and admission is by donation. Proceeds will benefit the Jack Moorehead Band Scholarship program for band members.

Band Director Marc Sansone said a variety of tunes are on tap, including selections from the musical “Grease,” singer Ed Sheeran and John Williams’s soundtrack of movie themes, as well as pieces from this year’s Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble competition.

Stanton Elementary performing

‘Alice in Wonderland Jr.’

HAMMONDSVILLE — Audience members can view another world with White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat and more during Stanton Elementary School’s spring performance of “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” on March 16.

Music teacher Jacqueline Harris is directing the fifth-and-sixth-grade production, which starts at 7 p.m. Harris said this year’s event includes 35 pupils, and fourth-graders will take part as extras and stage crew members.
