Another suspicious fire reported at city house
STEUBENVILLE — City firefighters were called around 8 p.m. Wednesday to fight a fire at a vacant house at 236 S. Eighth St.
The fire department reported flames were discovered on the first floor of the house upon arrival.
It is the second time for a suspicious fire at the structure, the fire department reported. The house was scheduled to be demolished, reports said.
The fire department reported there were multiple fire origins in the basement. A fire inspector was called to the scene, according to the fire department.
A City Police officer was on patrol and saw smoke coming from the building before the fire department was notified. Neighbors told the officer people were staying in an adjacent vacant house.
The officer said he searched that house but nobody was located.
The Weirton Fire Department was called to the scene and was sent to the North Street station on standby. Wintersville Fire and Rescue staffed the city’s West End station.
