Two from E. Liverpool apply as marijuana dispensaries
LISBON — Of the 370 applications seeking state licenses to serve as a medical marijuana dispensary, two are for Columbiana County and both are located in East Liverpool.
The state pharmacy board issued a revised list of the applicants at the end of January, and it listed two East Liverpool locations as applicants:
¯ 1865 Dresden Ave., which appears to be the Sundance Photography Studio owned by the Dresden Family Group, according to the county auditor’s website. The applicant is FarmaceuticalRX LLC, whose principal contact is listed as Rebecca Myers, company CEO.
¯ 1561 Pennsylvania Ave., which appears to be the old Dollar General store owned by Magnum Investments. The applicant is Ohio Valley Wellness LLC, whose primary contact is listed as Jennifer Picha.
The state law passed by the Legislature in 2016 allows for medical use of marijuana with a prescription. The prescriptions can only be filled at licensed medical marijuana dispensaries, and the state has allotted a total of three to be spread among counties in Northeast District 4, which takes in Columbiana, Carroll, Stark and Tuscarawas counties.
There were no applications for Carroll County, only one for Tuscarawas and 18 for Stark.
As mentioned above, a total of 370 applications were received by the deadline, and only 60 licenses are expected to be issued.
The law requires medical marijuana to be available by Sept. 18, but many wonder whether the Ohio Board of Pharmacy will be in a position to regulate them by then or resolve any lawsuits that might arise.
FarmaceuticalRX also sought a state license to operate as a marijuana cultivator at another site in East Liverpool, but the company was not among applicants awarded Level 1 or Level 2 licenses in November and December.
