Family Recovery accepting clients from Life Walk

STEUBENVILLE — Clients who had been receiving medication assisted treatment for substance use disorder from Life Walk in Wintersville, which unexpectedly closed this week, are urged to contact Family Recovery Center to continue treatment.

Officials with the local Family Recovery Center, which is located at 1010 N. Sixth St. at the corner of state Route 7 and University Boulevard, reported they are accepting clients for its medication assisted treatment program, which is the use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a whole-patient approach to the treatment of substance use disorders, according to Family Recovery Center officials.

Eloise Traina, Family Recovery Center executive director, said research has shown when treating substance use disorders, a combination of medication, including Suboxone and Vivitrol and behavioral therapies, is most successful. Medication assisted treatment is clinically driven with a focus on individualized patient care, she said. When prescribed and monitored properly, medication assisted treatments have proved effective in helping patients recover. Moreover, the treatments have been shown to be safe and cost-effective and to reduce the risk of overdose, Traina added.

Family Recovery Center officials reported that research shows that without medication assisted treatment, there is 90 percent chance of relapsing from opioid dependency. Clients who are compliant with the program have more than a 50 percent chance of remaining sober after three months, according to agency officials.

“We realize how important it is for clients to have access to this life-saving medication,” Traina said. “Without it, these individuals are at risk of relapse, jeopardizing the progress they’ve made toward recovery. We encourage them to call and make an appointment for an assessment, so we can begin treatment as soon as possible.”

Traina said the agency has increased its abilities to do initial assessments of clients. Clients also are required to be involved with programming at the agency, which includes drug testing and therapy, in addition to the prescription for the medication.

Appointments can be made by calling the agency at (740) 283-4946.

In addition to the office in Steubenville, Family Recovery Center also operates a recovery house for men in Mingo Junction. Other offices are located in Lisbon and East Liverpool.
