Mingo distribution

Mingo Social Services held its annual Christmas distribution Wednesday at the Village Municipal Building, with more than 320 baskets given to those in need. The event included bags of items for each individual, an array of meat products and presents for children. The United Way of Jefferson County gives funds to the agency to help with the annual Christmas effort, according to Sophie Schoolcraft, social services director. Along with many area residents who help with distribution, some members of the Indian Creek Junior High National Honor Society assisted on Wednesday. Those involved included, from left, junior high pupils Aidan Wright, Ayden White, Roan Kovach, Hannah Lane and Rachel Durbin; volunteer Kristen Wheeler-Kurner; Schoolcraft; volunteer Linda Caputo; and junior high group adviser Cathy DiBenedetto. Schoolcraft thanked Riesbeck’s grocery stores and the Wal-Mart Distribution Center, adding donations came from around the country, including Connecticut and Florida. “People have been so generous this holiday season,” Schoolcraft noted.
