Supporting law enforcement

The Brooke County Sportsmen Club recently provided $1,000 for a Remington 700 P rifle to be used by Wellsburg Police Patrolman Micah Knisley. Knisley recently joined two Brooke County sheriff’s deputies in undergoing 40 hours of sniper training at the North Carolina National Guard’s Camp Butner Training Center to respond to active shooter incidents. The remainder of the rifle’s cost will be split by the Wellsburg and Bethany police departments, which both employ Knisley. On hand for the presentation were, from left, Aaron Russell, chairman of the club’s board; Wellsburg Police Chief Richard Ferguson; Knisley; and Ron Penrod, club president. Knisley has worked in law enforcement for 13 years and is an Army veteran, having served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
