CONNORVILLE — Buckeye Local High School is keeping community members fed by donating to a local pantry this holiday season.

Members of the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes spearheaded a food drive earlier in the year as part of a United Way campaign and collected 10 boxes of nonperishable items. The food then was donated to the Rush Run Community Chapel near Rayland to help fill Thanksgiving baskets.

FCA adviser Belinda Boyce said the students were happy to give.

“I think it shows the kids really care when they bring in food,” Boyce said. “This is the second year the FCA has done it.”

She added those who contributed canned and boxed food items received bonus points as an incentive, but the real reward was in helping those in need.

The Rev. Jim Monogioudis of the church said baskets were distributed to needy families and he is thankful for the school’s generosity. He added that other BLHS teachers and students have contributed to the cause in the past.

Monogioudis noted more baskets will be given at Christmastime, while the pantry operates all year round to feed the community members regardless of any church affiliation. He said local support is always welcome to stock the shelves. For information, contact Rush Run Community Chapel at (740) 733-6223.
