Harrison aging agency money OK’d

CADIZ — Harrison County commissioners on Wednesday approved appropriations for a local organization.

Commissioners Dale Norris, Don Bethel and Paul Coffland approved appropriations for the Harrison County Council on Aging, which recently secured voter approval of a renewal tax levy that will cost property owners about 7.5 cents for each $100 of valuation for five years.

The council on aging, which provides numerous services and activities to older residents, asked for $175,000 in appropriations, which Coffland said is the money for the levy that the commissioners collect and pass on.

Harrison County Auditor Patrick Moore said there were no issues with the appropriation.

The commissioners also approved various fund transfers between line items for the veterans office, soil and water conservation district and county prosecutor.

Harrison County Sheriff Ronald Myers reminded people to be careful as they travel for the holiday. He noted that as the weather gets colder, people need to take extra care in driving.

“We’re starting to see that precipitation nobody wants to talk about,” Myers said, referring to snow.

The commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the courthouse.
