Car cruise against cancer set for Sunday

WELLSBURG — A benefit car and bike cruise for Women In Action Against Cancer Coalition will be held in the Dollar General lot in Wellsburg from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Rain date is Oct. 15.

Registration is $5, and there will be 50 dash plaques awarded.

The fundraiser will include a 50-50 drawing, door prizes, food and drink and music by DJ Bee Keepr and Queen Bee.

Legislation introduced by City Council

STEUBENVILLE — City Council has introduced an emergency ordinance through the news media for consideration at the Tuesday meeting.

The council members will vote on an ordinance to amend the city’s table of organization.

Engineer releases work schedule

STEUBENVILLE — Jefferson County Engineer James Branagan released the work schedule for county highway department crews for next week:

Road improvement — Glen Robbins Road (county Road 1) is closed until further notice at a point 0.3 mile from the intersection of Yorkville-Glen Robbins Road (county Road 2).

Bridge replacement –County Road 7; and Hollow Rock Road, which is closed 0.7 mile south of state Route 213.

Pavement repairs — Sunset Lake Road (county Road 41) from township Road 374 to state Route 43, Richmond.

Patching — Goulds Road (county Road 74) from second bridge to tunnel.

Road closings will be announced.

Saline trustees will meet

HAMMONDSVILLE — The Saline Township Trustees will meet at 5 p.m. Monday at the township complex, 164 county Road 50 A.

ESC Board changes October meeting date

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Educational Center Governing Board will hold its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday instead of on Oct. 17.

The meeting will be held at the ESC building on Sunset Boulevard.

Relay for Life meeting Tuesday

STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville Area Relay for Life will hold a planning meeting beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room 2502 of Eastern Gateway Community College in Steubenville.

Anyone is welcome to attend.

The relay will be held June 16 at the Robert Kettlewell Memorial Stadium at Indian Creek High School, Wintersville.

Icon to come to Holy Trinity

STEUBENVILLE — The Hawaiian Myrrh-Streaming Icon of the Theotokos of Iveron will be at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Chruch, 300 S. Fourth St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

The service of supplication will begin at 6 p.m., and Subdeacon Nectary Yangson, in whose Honolulu home the icon was discovered to have myrrh streaming from it, will offer remarks.

A time of veneration, blessing and personal prayer in front of the icon will follow.

Refreshments will be served.

The icon also will be displayed at the Nativity of Theotokos Greek Orthodox Monastery, 121 St. Elias Lane, Saxonburg, Pa., Tuesday.
