STEUBENVILLE — Pugliese West Elementary will implement a new hands-on program beginning in November for fourth-grade pupils.

SeaPerch, an underwater robotics program, will allow pupils the ability to discover a new curriculum with a hands-on design approach, as they construct underwater remotely operated vehicles, according to Pugliese West teacher Heather Hoover.

“The school’s fourth-graders recently attended a kick-off assembly where they were introduced to the program and also had the opportunity to meet with local Staff Sgt. Sanders and Staff Sgt. Chesney from the United States Army,” Hoover said.

“Students learned how engineering, robotics and education are vital assets to not only one’s future but also how these relate to the Army and their core engineering program. Students will present constructed ROV’s and demonstrate their ability to navigate these through a series of underwater missions at an end of the year SeaPerch event,” Hoover explained.
