Main public library to close for construction

STEUBENVILLE — The main library of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will temporarily close to the public on Oct. 27 to begin construction for its Americans with Disabilities Act project.

Customers with library materials will be able to return library materials to the main library’s bookdrop until Dec. 1 or return items at any library branch in the county.

“The Bookmobile will make regular stops to the main library’s parking lot once the building closes in October. The Bookmobile will be in the parking lot on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. starting Nov.1. For a Bookmobile schedule, visit the library’s website at www.steubenvillelibrary.org,” said public relations coordinator Jennifer Cesta.

Construction is estimated to continue for a year, and the library is projected to reopen next November. Once completed, a 10,000-square-foot, two-story addition will compliment and connect to the 115-year-old building to make it accessible to all, she said.

“Public entrance to the building will be at street level on Slack Street with an elevator and stairwell to face customers as they enter the building. The Bookmobile’s storage and work area will move to the south end of the addition where new parking space will be added. The addition will include a meeting room, new computer room and new children’s area,” according to Cesta.
