Campaign kickoff in Weirton

The Weirton United Way is kicking off its 2017 campaign this week working toward its $260,000 goal to benefit its 12 member agencies. Representatives of the agencies gathered on the front steps of the Mary H. Weir Public Library Monday to assist in preparations, with campaign volunteers invited to collect materials from the United Way office beginning on Tuesday. Walk-a-thons will be held Friday at three Weirton schools, with pupils at Weir Middle taking part at 9 a.m., and Weir High and Weirton Elementary holding their walks at 1:30 p.m. This year’s campaign chair is Patrick Ford, with Luke Myers serving as vice chair. — Craig Howell
