Quilt for Christian school

The Jefferson County Christian School will hold a drawing for a handcrafted, log cabin patterned quilt during the second-annual Winter Carnival set Friday at the Wintersville school. The quilt uses brown and tan log cabin squares in a barn raising design. A flying geese pattern borders the king size quilt. It was designed by Nancy Courtney, 30-year art teacher at JCCS, and machine quilted by Tootie Hershberger at the Homestead Quilting in Sugarcreek. Showing off the quilt are Gabriel Rankin, development director, left, and Courtney. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with carnival food, games, prizes and entertainment. Proceeds go to the building maintenance/mortgage fund that the school kicked off last September, encouraging families to collect loose change to bring to the carnival. Last year the school raised more than $10,000 in loose change to help pay down the school’s mortgage. This year all of the money raised will be matched by a donor up to $100,000, according to school administrators. For information or to place an advanced bid for the silent auction quilt, call the school at (740) 275-4326. Donations to the matching campaign are being accepted at any time. — Esther McCoy
