State casino revenues take a dip
COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio’s four casinos made less revenue last month compared to November 2015 while the state’s seven racinos brought in more, according to new state data.
The figures released by the Casino Control Commission and state Lottery Commission show the casinos totaled about $62 million last month. That’s down from nearly $65 million last year, Cleveland.com reported. Three casinos saw declines.
The racinos totaled nearly $70 million, up from about $66 million a year earlier. Six racinos reported higher year-over-year revenue figures.
Revenue is the money remaining after winners are paid and promotions are deducted. Casinos don’t report revenue collected from selling merchandise, food, or beverages.
Racinos have made $819.9 million so far this year, the Dayton Daily News reported. They’ll surpass last year’s total revenue by $60 million with an average December.
The Ohio Lottery regulates racino slot machines. The state retains about a third of the winnings, most of which is earmarked for education.
“We’ve seen growth in the market since 2014 when the last of the seven racinos opened,” Ohio Lottery Director Dennis Berg said. We’re pleased that the consumer market has embraced the facilities and the amenities they offer, and we look forward to continued growth in the future.”
Casinos are on pace to make about $15 million less than last year. The state taxes casinos at 33 percent.
