Legend Fish at Froehlich’s Sunday
STEUBENVILLE — Local band Legend Fish has planned a concert for 7 p.m. Sunday at Froehlich’s Classic Corner to honor Chris Ledyard, who has been the band’s lead singer and frontman for almost 30 years.
Ledyard recently accepted a job as athletic director for J. Serra High School, a Catholic Preparatory School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., which is part of the well-known Trinity League in Southern California.
“This is a farewell party for Chris and his family,” said Mark Fischer, Ledyard’s longtime friend and musical collaborator. “We want to bring together all of the Ledyards’ friends to give them a proper send off. We’ve planned quite an evening of music.”
Fischer has invited past band members, dating back to the group’s Remnant days, to join the current lineup for the show, which includes Ledyard, Fischer, Eric Drake, Mike Ofca, Dan Bozek and George Borden. They’ll be playing songs from each of their five albums.
“I’ve had the pleasure of playing music with dozens of vocalist/frontmen throughout my musical career. Chris is definitely one of my favorites,” said Borden. “He is an absolutely talented singer and performer.”
Ledyard’s good friend, Mark Eddie, will be joining the festivities with his unique brand of comedy and music and will be singing with Ledyard on some classic ’70s songs.
The concert also will feature the Remnant Choir from Holy Family Church in Steubenville, which will be releasing its new Christmas album, “The Light Shines On,” at the event. The choir, directed by Fischer, has been singing at Holy Family since the late 1990s and includes the entire Ledyard family and many other local singers.
The album, recorded at Aardvark Productions and co-produced and engineered by Bozek, features lead vocals by Ledyard and several of his children — Cuyler, Jude and Rachel — Alicia and Moira Hernon, Greg and Jacob Popcak, Teresa (Madden) Harrold, Catherine (Sengenberger) Klueber and others. The choir will perform songs from their new album at the concert.
Ledyard’s impact in the Ohio Valley has been substantial. Originally from upstate New York, he moved here in the early 1980s and graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School, where he was an Ohio Valley Athletic Conference champion wrestler.
In addition to his music, Ledyard has worked as vice principal at Steubenville Catholic Central and Madonna High School, coached high school wrestling and soccer, and, most notably, has been longtime athletic director for the Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Fischer, who has been writing songs and performing with Ledyard since 1987, says that the farewell is bittersweet.
“This is a great opportunity to honor a good man and a great friend,” said Fischer. “But Chris, Lisa and their whole family will be missed.”
Tickets for the concert are $5 and will be sold at the door. For information, go to the Legend Fish Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LegendFish.
