Briefs: Shots fired; Street re-opens

Shots fired incidents investigated

STEUBENVILLE — City Police are investigating two incidents of shots being fired this weekend.

According to police reports, police were called to investigate reports of shots being fired in the 600 block of Slack Street Friday morning and found five shell casings.

Police also received a report of shots being fired in the 400 block of Clinton Avenue at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday and found three shell casings there near North Fourth Street.

Street re-opened following sinkhole

FOLLANSBEE — Allegheny Street was re-opened Saturday after being closed Thursday night when a city official discovered a sinkhole there.

City Manager John DeStefano said he discovered the hole while waiting for a red light at the intersection of Allegheny and Main streets.

He said state road crews filled a large gap beneath the hole with a truckload of material that included water, sand and some cement that can be removed without much difficulty if needed.

DeStefano said state highway officials have heeded city officials’ concerns about the condition of a bridge beneath the intersection and hope to replace the small span, though funding hasn’t been secured yet for the project.
