Fireman’s fest set for Saturday
SMITHFIELD — The Smithfield Fire Department and Auxiliary are ready to hold their fourth-annual Fireman’s Fall Festival on Saturday near the fire station.
Their famous barbecued chicken dinners will be ready at 11 a.m. Outside will be a stand with pizza, hot dogs, other sandwiches, cold drinks, apple dumplings and more.
The Smithfield Methodist Woman’s Society will hold a bake sale and 4-H clubs and other organizations will be participating. There will be craft sales, vendors with jewelry, games for children and holiday items.
There will be bounce house; a car cruise-in, with registration from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with vehicles lined up along Main Street. Viewing will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the cost is $5 for entry fees.
Ron Retzer will sing and play music ranging from classic to his comedic “Mississippi Squirrel” song from noon to 3 p.m. If possible, he does take requests.
A parade line-up will be held at the old elementary school on Hill Street at 4:30 p.m. and move down Main Street at 5 p.m. Trophies will be awarded by the fire department for the best fire engine, best squad, best police unit, best tanker, best brush unit and the chief’s choice.
