Wells teachers take ALS ice bucket challenge

Teachers at Wells Academy in Steubenville took the plunge with the ALS Association’s ice bucket challenge Wednesday. More than 300 students from pre-kindergarten through fourth grade raised $2,000 in just three days, and the biggest fundraisers in each grade got to drench their teachers with buckets full of ice water. Sara Nocera, first-grade teacher, extended the viral campaign to the school in part to remember Chris France, who worked in the Steubenville school system for 33 years and instructed at Franciscan University of Steubenville for 17 years before she lost her fight with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in 2011. “She was one of my favorite teachers,” Nocera said. “As a staff member I thought this would be a positive way for all of us to connect with the students.”
