Rains lead to flooding, closed roads

STEUBENVILLE – Heavy rains overnight resulted in several roads being closed this morning, including state Route 7 in the Rush Run construction zone.

More than 3 inches of rain fell during the night and early morning, resulting in flooding concerns, mainly in the southern part of Jefferson County.

AEP reported 275 customers in Jefferson County were without power this morning.

The Ohio Department of Transportation closed state Route 7 from Rush Run to Georges Run because of high water in the construction zones. Crews were attempting to unclog drains in the work area.

Adena was reporting roads were covered with flood waters and the volunteer fire department building had some water inside.

State Route 151 in the New Alexandria area was closed for a period because of high water. Law enforcement officers had to help several stranded motorists in the flood waters.

State Route 152 out of Smithfield and state Route 150 out of Dillonvale also were closed because of high water.

There were some concerns about a dam on a newly constructed pond off state Route 151 when water started to come over the dam, but the water receded.

John Parker, county emergency management agency director, cautioned residents in the southern part of the county to drive with caution because of debris on the roads.

A bridge washed out on county Road 1. The bridge was reported to be in the creek and trees and other debris were causing the water to back up in the Glen Robbins area.
