Buckeye Local OAPSE vote scheduled for today
DILLONVALE – Non-certified employees in the Buckeye Local School District are scheduled to vote today on a tentative contract agreement that, if ratified, will ensure classes will start as scheduled next week,
The 85 members of Local 373 of the Ohio Association of Public School employees will vote on the deal during a 4:30 p.m. meeting at the United Steelworkers Local 1223 hall on Public Road.
If approved, the deal will clear the way for the district’s bus drivers, cooks, aides, secretaries, custodians and other non-certified union members to report to work as scheduled.
“If ratified, the union will withdraw its strike notice. If not ratified, the implemented contract shall remain in effect and the union’s intent to strike shall remain in effect,” said Buckeye Local Superintendent Mark Miller after announcing the two sides had reached an agreement on a deal that would cover the next two years.
Union leaders said they were happy with the progress that had been made during the discussions.
Miller indicated this is the end of the school board’s willingness to negotiate on this contract.
Buckeye Local teachers are scheduled to report for the new school year on Monday, with classes scheduled to begin Aug. 27.
