Three injured in Steubenville shooting

STEUBENVILLE – Three people were injured in a shooting around 10:15 a.m. today at the Heritage Place apartments on Market Street, with one person being flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital with serious injuries.

City Police Chief William McCafferty said police are looking for the shooter, who escaped in a yellow Cavalier with a dark sunroof. McCafferty said police have a suspect.

Two bystanders, a father and son, were hit in the leg by bullets that ricocheted, McCafferty said. He said those two were taken to Trinity Medical Center West for treatment.

The victim who was shot multiple times was able to run back into the apartment building in the upper lot of the apartment complex, the chief said.

McCafferty said the suspect was outside the vehicle when the shots were fired.

Several law enforcement agencies were assisting in the investigation, including juvenile court probation department, Mingo Junction police, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A BCI agent was processing the scene and gathering evidence.
