WMC gets chief nursing officer
WEIRTON – Denise Westwood has been named chief nursing officer at Weirton Medical Center.
She comes to WMC with extensive experience in the health care industry, most recently serving as vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Canonsburg Hospital of the Allegheny Health Network in nearby Washington County. She’s served in that capacity for the past 11 years. Prior to her most recent administrative duties in Canonsburg, she managed the facility’s emergency department.
Westwood lives in Imperial with her husband, Louis Lucarini, and says she is eager to bring her expertise to WMC, which has experienced unprecedented growth in the past several months.
“I am very honored to have been selected for this position. I’ve spent all of my nursing career in community hospitals and I believe the community hospital setting is one in which I thrive. I am so very proud to be coming to such a growing entity,” says Westwood.
Westwood will take over for Sherry Zisk, the current chief nursing officer. Zisk recently announced her retirement and will remain on staff for several months to ensure a smooth transition.
“We are so fortunate to have Sherry here for this important transition as Denise gets acclimated at WMC. Sherry has been a tremendous asset to our facility. We feel in her, and now Denise, we have two of the best in the business and are so very excited about our future,” says Charles M. O’Brien, CEO.
Westwood is a graduate of Duquesne University with a bachelor of science in nursing and holds a master’s degree from Duquesne in nursing, with a focus on nursing education. She will begin her duties at WMC on June 10.
