Genealogists schedule research open houses

WINTERSVILLE – Three research open houses are planned for the Jefferson County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society, 100 Fernwood Road, according to Flora VerStraten Merrin, chapter president.

For those thinking about a family history research, there will be volunteer genealogists and tech savvy volunteers present to assist those who need help, according to VerStraten Merrin.

The first, a Research Your Family Tree Open House, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 3. The second open house is Aug. 2, and the third is Oct. 4. All are free and open to the public.

VerStraten Merrin noted an office cleanup is planned from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Volunteers would be appreciated, she noted.

VerStraten-Merrin reminded members that dues must be paid, and those becoming members will not be locked out of the “members only” portion of the website by going on the OGS website, and filling out a membership application, printing and mailing it to the chapter or by using PayPal.

The 2014 membership is $20 and can be mailed to JCC OGS, P.O. Box 2367, Wintersville, OH 43953.

A membership form needs to be filled out to include contact information as well as the surnames for search.

Normal archive research hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Fernwood Road office. Saturday is by appointment only. The telephone number is (740) 342-2820. The e-mail address is jefferson county
