Fair housing seminars planned

STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville Fair Housing Practices Commission will hold a roundtable discussion at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Gaylord Towers Community Room at 707 Market St.

According to Urban Projects Director Chris Petrossi, the public is invited to join the discussion.

“We will provide participants with information regarding housing discrimination pertaining to race, color, national origin, religion, military status, sex, sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as disability, handicap and familial status. Fair housing consultant Carl White from the Regional Housing Center will be the moderator for the event,” explained Petrossi.

Petrossi also announced the Fair Housing Program of Jefferson County and the Ohio Valley Fair Housing Center will host training scheduled throughout the county starting Monday.

Workshops will be held Monday and May 19 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Indian Village Apartments Community Room at 125 Ravine St., Mingo Junction.

Additional workshops will be held Tuesday and May 20 from 5 p.m. o 6 p.m. at the Saline Township Complex at 164 County Road 50A, Hammondsville; and Tuesday and May 20 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School, Room 606, at 1509 County Highway 22A, Bloomingdale.

“Everyone is invited to attend the seminar to learn more about fair housing laws and how they apply to you and your friends and neighbors. Attendees can also learn more about fair housing rights and responsibilities, the complaint process and how fair housing affects persons with disabilities. Two seminars will be presented. The first seminar will deal with rights and responsibilities and the second seminar concerns the complaint process and persons with disabilities. All sessions are free and open to the public,” said Petrossi.
