Charges filed against mother in baby’s death

STEUBENVILLE – Charges of reckless homicide and child endangering were filed Tuesday against a mother who allegedly passed out April 2 in a bathtub with her 4-month-old son, resulting in the baby’s death.

City Police reported the mother, Celicia M. Wilson, 25, was drinking and was in the bathtub at a house at 2417 Sunset Blvd. Wilson’s 7-year-old daughter and another family member were leaving the residence and put the baby, Shamir White, in the bathtub with the mother, police reported.

The daughter returned to the house after about 25 minutes and the infant was floating in the tub, with the mother passed out, police reported.

The baby was pulled from the tub and taken to Trinity Medical Center West, where it was pronounced dead.

City Police Chief William McCafferty said the mother was interviewed by the department’s juvenile detective. She also was given a drug and alcohol screening while Wilson was at the hospital with her son.

Wilson was being held in the county jail on a $250,000 bond. She was scheduled to appear today in municipal court.
