Three indicted in area armed robbery
WELLSBURG – Three Steubenville residents facing charges in connection with the armed robbery of a Weirton business and a man accused of making threats to the man who killed his brother during a Wheeling robbery were among more than 30 indicted by a Brooke County grand jury this week.
Steven English Howell, 30, of 740 Rosswell Ave., Steubenville, was indicted for first-degree robbery and conspiring to commit the crime for entering the Weirton Gumby’s store while brandishing a weapon and demanding money from two clerks there on Oct. 18.
Darrell Hawkins, 42, of 735 Rosswell Ave., was indicted for aiding and abetting the robbery by serving as a lookout and driving Howell from the scene. Hawkins and his wife, Christina, also were indicted for conspiring with Howell to commit the crime.
Michael S. Walnoha Jr., 44, of RD 2, Wellsburg, was indicted for threatening to commit a terroristic act and harassment for threatening to kill the employee of a Wheeling pharmacy who shot and killed his brother, Kevin Lee Walnoha.
West Virginia State Police reported an employee of the Elm Grove Pharmacy shot and killed Kevin Walnoha after he jumped over the counter, demanding pills and pointing a handgun at another employee on May 25, 2012.
According to court records, Walnoha made the threats through texts sent to someone he knew. Brooke County Prosecutor Joseph Barki III said while the threats weren’t made directly to the defendant, there was sufficient concern that he would carry them out to support his prosecution.
Also indicted was Randolph Strope, 53, of Burgettsown for fleeing from an officer in a reckless manner, fleeing while under the influence of alcohol and two counts of malicious assault upon a government representative.
According to reports, Strope was pulled over by a Weirton policeman on Dec. 23 for reckless driving and when the officer approached his vehicle, he pulled away, striking the officer.
Police said Strope led them on a chase from Three Springs Drive to U.S. Route 22, traveling at more than 80 mph and weaving in and out of traffic through a construction zone. The chase ended in Pennsylvania when Strope struck the cruiser of another city policeman.
Strope and the officer who was struck while standing outside his vehicle were transported to Weirton Medical Center for treatment.
Others indicted were:
Jacob Walter Mahoney, 33, of Bridgeport, Ohio, three counts of soliciting a minor via computer and two counts each of first-degree sexual abuse and sexual abuse by a trusted person.
Crystal Blossom McCoy, 34, of 533 Nebow Drive, Toronto, fraudulent scheme, burglary and conspiring for taking more than $1,000 in merchandise from a Weirton store, conspiring with another woman to shoplift and breaking into her accomplice’s home.
William R. Baehr, 25, of of 846 Neville St., Follansbee, three counts of breaking and entering for robbing the Follansbee Pawn Shop, Scavati’s and Curly’s Pizza between Oct. 31 and Nov. 13, grand larceny for stealing more than $1,000 in handguns from the pawn shop and prohibited person in possession of a firearm. According to the indictment, Baehr took cash from the other two businesses.
Thomas Wesley Stephen, age and address unknown, breaking and entering for robbing the Corner Cupboard in Colliers and conspiring to commit the crime.
Ronald Joseph McQuillan, 36, of RR 1, Colliers, grand larceny for taking about 200 feet of copper lead belonging to Sheehan Pipeline.
Paul David Crisp, 47, of of Marienville, Pa., and Michael Thomas Cujus, 34, of Aliquippa, Pa., each grand larceny and conspiring for taking $1,000 in scrap metal belonging to ArecelorMittal.
John Gene Horton, 24, of Follansbee, entering without breaking in connection with the robbery of a laptop computer and videos from a Follansbee home.
Ronald L. Henry Jr., 31, of 1300 Main St., Wellsburg, burglary and grand larceny in connection with the robbery of nail guns from Wellsburg home.
David P. Miller, 37, of 516 Rose St., Follansbee, and Anthony M. Hedmond, 37, of 1056 Virginia Ave., Follansbee, each burglary, grand larceny and conspiring for allegedly taking jewelry from a Beech Bottom home.
Tracie J. Weith, 34, of Wellsburg, aiding and abetting and conspiring with Henry and Hedmond to commit a crime.
Amy Baker, 37, of 52 Rabbit Hill Road, Wellsburg, fraudulent scheme. According to court documents, Baker was serving as a volunteer assistant troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America Black Diamond Council when she used a debit card intended for the purchase of materials for the troop to purchase at least $5,000 in goods from local grocery stores.
Curtis Glenn Caldwell, 51, of Rear 51 25th St., Wellsburg, embezzlement for taking more than $1,000 from the Kroger store where he worked.
Stacey Jarrett, 44, of 132 Franklin St., Weirton, embezzlement for taking more than $1,000 from her employer, Allietta Ford.
Debra A. Baker, 61, of 130 Scenery Hill, Wellsburg, embezzlement for taking more than $1,000 from the United School Service Employee Association of West Virginia, of which she was secretary-treasurer.
Brandon S. Moore, 21, of Follansbee, and Eric B. Bee, 32, of 700 Cunningham St., Follansbee, each transferring stolen goods and conspiring for selling a stolen laptop computer and computer scanner.
Bee also was indicted on a count of escape for a home confinement violation.
James Carr, 42, address unknown, grand larceny in connection with the theft of an automobile and felon in possession of a firearm.
Brittany N. Ressenger, 25, of 225 Avenue E, Weirton, forgery involving a credit card and conspiring.
Robert A. Hans, 32, of 213 Avenue D, Weirton, conspiring with Ressenger to commit the same crime.
Chad Edward Biggs, 31, of RR 2, Wellsburg, concealing stolen goods for concealing a light plant and fixtures taken from a construction site in Rayland.
Alexis Dawn Majoris, 27, of 102 South 13th St., Weirton, third-offense shoplifting.
Michael Jones, 41, of Glenville, W.Va., for conspiring to possess child pornography. Barki confirmed Jones attempted to arrange for the pornography to be delivered to him in jail, where he has been sentenced for a prior conviction of possession of child pornography.
Michael L. Summers, 37, no fixed address, third-offense domestic violence for grabbing, punching and attempting to choke his girlfriend.
Daniel Thomas Roberts, 35, of 1313 Main St., Follansbee, failure to provide child support.
Dustin Andrew Cox, 19, of 359 Delta Lane, Colliers, and Zachary Hurst, 20, of 601 South 22nd St., Weirton, each possesion of marijuana with intent to deliver and conspiring with each other commit the crime.
Jesse Larica Coen, 22, of 18 Lemon Lane A, Wellsburg, two counts of delivering marijuana,
Stephen Michael Haight, 34, of 322 Harmony Drive, Wintersville, transporting marijuana and Xanax into the state and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
Leonard A. Smith, 48, of 56 Summit Ave., Wellsburg, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and two counts of delivering it.
The cases were presented by the Brooke County Prosecutor’s Office before First Judicial Circuit Court Judge Ronald Wilson Tuesday and Wednesday. Those indicted are slated to appear for arraignments before Wilson Tuesday.
