Mingo Social Services will distribute baskets April 9

MINGO JUNCTION – Mingo Junction Social Services is getting ready for its Easter food basket distribution on April 9.

Sophie Schoolcraft, Mingo Social Services director, said the baskets for the needy will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Municipal Building.

Persons wanting a basket must come to the Municipal Building in the next several weeks to fill out an application. Phone applications will not be accepted, Schoolcraft said.

She noted more than 250 baskets will be given away that day to Mingo Junction and Brilliant residents, as well as those in the Georges Run area.

Schoolcraft said, in addition to the food baskets, there will be Easter baskets with candy for kids. She said gift cards may be available depending on the cash donations received.

Donations for the food baskets come from a variety of organizations and from current and former residents, Schoolcraft said, adding in the past Mingo Social Services has been overwhelmed with the support for the Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter baskets.

Helping with the Easter food baskets are the Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Riesbeck’s, First United Presbyterian Church, St. Agnes Catholic Church, Harmony United Methodist Church, St. John the Baptist Byzantine Church, St. Andrew’s Orthodox Church and the First United Methodist Church, all of Mingo Junction; Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville; Wheeler Funeral Home; and the Junior National Honor Society at Indian Creek Junior High School.

People wanting to make cash or food donations should call Schoolcraft at (740) 535-1072 or mail donations to Mingo Junction Social Services, 501 Commercial St., Mingo Junction, OH 43938
