Fergusons to be honored, lightly roasted at dinner
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Derek and Lisa Ferguson of Wintersville have been chosen to be honored and sauted (lightly roasted) at the Ohio Cancer Research Associates Grand Illusions dinner party planned on April 3 at Undo’s West Hampton Inn, St. Clairsville.
“We are very honored to be chosen,” Derek Ferguson said. “The Ohio Cancer Research Associates find and help fund the best researchers in Ohio. It is a great cause and we will do whatever we can to help raise money here in the Ohio Valley.”
Ferguson spoke at a recent kickoff luncheon with Richard L. Riesbeck at Riesbeck Food Markets’ corporate office. Several area business and civic leaders supporting cancer research attended.
The Ohio Valley Grand Illusions is now in its 20th year. The honorees are being recognized by the Ohio Cancer Research Associates for their years of service to Ohio Valley and their interest and support for cancer research and awareness.
Past recipients of the award include George Nicolozakes, Judge John Malik (twice), Sam Mumley, Lance Mehl, John and Toni Bedway, Tony Gentile, Dr. Joseph Maroon, Bob Whiteside, Michael Puskarich, Richard Riesbeck, Brian Felici, Judge Frank Fregiato, Dennis Hendershot, Michael Shaheen, John and Rita Dutton, Robert E. Murray, Paul Carapellotti, Michael Carapellotti and Anthony Carapellotti and Paul M. Limbert.
Ohio Cancer Research Associates is an independent statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to the cure and prevention of the many forms of cancer and the reduction of its debilitating effects through aggressive basic seed money research, cancer information and awareness. Ohio Cancer Research Associates is not affiliated with any other organization.
The more than $6.8 million in seed money provided by Ohio Cancer Research Associates has generated more than $174.2 million in new money from other sources to continue basic cancer research on projects initially funded. The Ohio Valley event continues to be one of the top fundraisers in the state.
Individual researchers have been or are currently being funded at Ohio State University, Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, the Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University and Ireland Cancer Center of University Hospitals of Cleveland, Metro-Health Medical Center in Cleveland, Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center, University of Cincinnati, Ohio University, Wright State University, Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and the program at 8 p.m.
