Braybarton house fire results in two deaths
STEUBENVILLE – A fire Saturday morning at a house at 301 Braybarton Blvd. took the lives of two elderly people, the City Fire Department reported.
A city police officer on duty saw the fire at around 5:05 a.m. Saturday and notified the fire department.
The fire department confirmed a male and female were found inside the house.
The fire department reported there was extensive damage to the house.
Gray Nagy of the fire department said it was difficult to extinguish. He said every room of the house was on fire at one point.
The county coroner’s office reported the 70-year-old female has been positively identified. The coroner’s office is working using dental and blood work to positively identify the male victim, believed to be 63 years old. Their bodies will be released to funeral homes, the coroner’s office said.
All off-duty city firefighters were called in and the Wintersville and Weirton fire departments provided backup at city fire stations.
The state fire marshal’s office has been called in to investigate the fire, along with inspectors from the city fire department.
No further information was being released by the fire department because the investigation has been turned over to the state fire marshal’s office.
