Pinewood Derby planned at Fort Steuben Mall

STEUBENVILLE – It’s Pinewood Derby time, and members of the Two Chiefs District of the Cub Scouts will compete Friday and Saturday in Center Court at the Fort Steuben Mall.

The event will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Friday night’s races are strictly for adult volunteers and those who have recently made the move from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.

Friday also is the time used for testing the track and making any adjustments needed for Saturday’s main event.

Close to 200 Scouts are likely to attend the event on Saturday, officials said. Races will be held all day Saturday, and six winners will be announced. Each of the six winners will be presented with a trophy, along with gift cards courtesy of the mall.

This annual event is for Cub Scout members in first through fifth grades in the Two Chiefs District, which includes New Manchester, Weirton, Follansbee, Bethany and Wellsburg in West Virginia and Freeport, Empire, Irondale, Bloomingdale, Richmond, Wintersville, Steubenville, Toronto and Martins Ferry in Ohio.

Also on Saturday, the Boy Scouts will hold a Scout Show to showcase troops from the area and the various projects that they have been working on. The Scout Show will be just off of Center Court during the Pinewood Derby.
