Tax breaks OK’d for 2014
STEUBENVILLE – The Community Reinvestment Council unanimously recertified a lengthy list of properties for tax abatements for 2014 during the brief annual meeting Wednesday.
“The tax abatement program is an incentive for property owners to make substantial improvements to their properties and see a reduction in their property tax for a specified period of time,” explained Urban Projects Director Chris Petrossi.
“The program is available for property owners in the downtown area, the LaBelle and Pleasant Heights neighborhoods, as well as Lincoln Avenue and Lincoln Heights,” Petrossi said.
“These are all privately owned properties. When their terms expire they automatically come off the list,
“There are a few properties that we are watching. But I recommend all of the properties be approved,” noted Petrossi.
In other business during the meeting, the board re-elected Charles Joyce as chairman and Tom Timmons as vice chairman.
In attendance were Joyce, Timmons, Billy Petrella, Richard Beal, Michael Feist and Joe Scalise.
First Ward Councilman Gerald DiLoreto also attended.
