Fatal shooting probe continues
WINTERSVILLE – Village Police Chief Ed Laman said today his department is continuing to investigate a Saturday morning shooting incident that left two men dead.
Laman said no charges have been filed in the case.
Wintersville Police received a telephone call at 4:25 a.m. Saturday regarding two men arguing at a residence at 425 Eisenhower Road, reported Laman.
According to a statement released by Laman, “Officers found two male victims with gunshot wounds. The Wintersville Emergency Squad responded to the scene as well as Jefferson County Coroner Dr. Michael Scarpone, who pronounced both men dead at the scene.”
Laman identified the two shooting victims as 33-year-old Michael Shepherd of 425 Eisenhower Road and 70-year-old John Bowers of Evergreen Terrace in Wintersville.
The bodies were transported to the Cuyahoga County coroner’s department for autopsies.
“The shootings remain under investigation,” said Laman.
A report at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, which also responded to the shooting scene Saturday morning, identified Bowers as Shepherd’s father-in-law who was staying at the Shepherd’s house Friday night.
Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said she received a telephone call from Laman early Saturday morning but she has not yet seen a report regarding the fatal shootings.
Hanlin said the Ohio Bureau of Investigation is assisting Wintersville Police with the investigation.
