Weirton Wine and Dine draws crowd
WEIRTON – A crowd filled Williams Country Club Saturday evening for the fourth-annual Wine and Dine at Williams, hosted by the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle.
More than 200 tickets had been sold for the fourth-annual event, proceeds from which benefit the chamber’s educational programs, including Leadership Weirton, Youth Leadership Weirton and the High School Business Symposium, as well as assist with the upkeep of the community Christmas lights.
Chamber President Brenda Mull said she was excited to see such a large turnout Saturday, noting there were many in attendance who had never been to previous events.
“It’s a chance to have good food, good wine and a great night out,” Mull said. “It’s a good event for everyone in the community.”
Pat Ford, executive director of the BDC, also expressed his appreciation for the support of the community for the event and the programs offered by the chamber.
Those in attendance were able to sample a variety of wines from around the world, complemented by food prepared by the country club staff.
Nick Latousakis, whose Wine and Beverage Merchants has been the beverage sponsor since the event began four years ago, spent the evening serving drinks for those sampling some of the wines being offered.
“It’s just a great event,” Latousakis said, noting it provides an opportunity for residents to sample wines they might not normally find in their local stores. “It takes a lot of work, but it’s great for the community.”
Many of those attending also made their way outside to the “Man Cave” area, sponsored by Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort. In that area, visitors were able to sample a variety of cigars and hard liquors.
Also featured was carriage rides around the country club, made possible through a sponsorship by Fairfield Inn and Suites.
“The Fairfield Inn and Suites is proud to be a third-year sponsor,” Barb Owens, general manager of the hotel, said. “We look forward to next year’s event being bigger and better.”
Weirton Medical Center also is a returning sponsor, with officials saying they were glad for the opportunity to show their support to the chamber.
“We’re happy to sponsor the event,” Dave Artman, director of operations at Weirton Medical Center, said.
Artman noted the hospital also is looking forward to continuing economic development opportunities in the region.
Other sponsors for the evening were PS Marketing, WesBanco, Grae-Con Construction and Paper & Press Ink.
