Man wanted in connection with donation theft

NEWELL – The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a man who stole a donation container from a local business.

A white male, likely in his mid-20s, entered the Washington Street 7-Eleven at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 19, removed the donation container and exited the store, according to reports.

The man is approximately 5-feet, 5-inches tall and has a cross tattoo on the inside of his left forearm and another, unknown tattoo on the inside of his right upper forearm. He was wearing a blue Aeropostale T-shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and a neon green band around his right wrist, officials said.

Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher said in this particular incident the donation container was for the “Shop with a Cop” program.

“This program has been one of the charitable opportunities the Hancock County Deputy Sheriff’s Association has instituted over the past 25-plus years to purchase Christmas presents for children in need,” he said

The funds collected also have been used to provide immediate assistance for those who have lost possessions in their homes because of tragic circumstances.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is requesting anyone with information regarding this incident or recognizing the suspect to contact the department by calling (304) 564-4100.

Tips to the sheriff’s office can be submitted anonymously.
