Christmas parade plan is announced

STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville Events Committee announced today the 2013 “Sights and Sounds of Christmas” parade is set for noon on Dec. 7 in downtown Steubenville.

Judy Bratten of the events committee said Eastern Gateway Community College will be the title sponsor of the parade and WTOV-TV will televise the event.

“The parade will occur on Pearl Harbor Day, and to mark the occasion we are seeking veterans and veterans groups to appear in the parade, either on a float, in a vehicle or walking. We had a wonderful response to the parade last year … even with the wet weather. There were more than 80 units in 2012, and we expect to surpass that number this year,” said Bratten.

Organizations, companies, schools, bands or dance units are invited to enter a unit reflecting the theme “Sights and Sounds of Christmas.” No fee is required to enter a unit in the parade. Entry forms may be obtained at the Fort Steuben Visitors Center or by contacting the visitors center at (740) 283-4935 or e-mailing or from the website at Entry forms are due by Sept. 27.

“We hope to see new sights and hear new sounds at this year’s parade,” added Bratten.

She said any business, school, organization or individual also can be a parade sponsor.

“Organizations desiring to have a unit in the parade but do not have time to build a float may contact Creative Floats, a company that will rent a float to you for $600. If Steubenville parade participants rent five or more floats, renters will receive a discount of about $25 by advising Creative Floats that you are part of the Steubenville group rate package,” Bratten said.

Contact Creative Floats directly by calling Mark Aksterowicz at (330) 432-3449 or e-mail The company provides delivery and set-up.
