Scio Fall Festival begins

SCIO – “Celebrating Harrison County’s 200th Anniversary 1813-2013” is the theme of the Scio Fall Festival that starts today and continues through Saturday.

The midway rides open at 5 p.m. today and will continue through Friday, and a ride matinee is set from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Entertainment today will include Shay Bonnell at 5 p.m.; opening ceremonies, main stage, 6 p.m.; Hugo’s Jam Session with K.W. Sound Productions, East End stage, 6 p.m; 21st-annual Scio Fall Festival One Mile Fun Run starting at Spiker Fire Hall, 6:15 p.m; 29th-annual 5K run, fire hall, 7 p.m.; and Top Notch Entertainment karaoke contest, main street stage, 8 p.m.

There will be a cheerleading exhibition with Jewett-Scio and Cadiz biddy cheerleaders, Harrison Central junior and senior high cheerleaders at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Other events that day include a cub mobile derby, 6:30 p.m.; Counterfeit Band, main stage, 8 p.m.; teen dance and dance contest with Scotty B, east end stage, 8 p.m.

Events on Friday include the Lifeshare blood drive from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on East Main Street; Scio American Legion Post 482 and Jewett-Scio Alumni Band, 6 p.m.; 79th-annual Scio festival festival parade, 6:30 p.m.; 8-Track, classic rock and oldies, main stage, 8 p.m.; Todd T. Taylor, oldies, east end stage, 8 p.m.; and commemorative mug auction, Bill Host auctioneer, main stage, 10 p.m.

Saturday’s event will feature the 28th-annual Scio Show and Shine Car Show at the Eastport Field, across from Bakers at noon; cornhole tournament, noon; Harrison County Conotton Creek Bike Show, Veterans Covered Bridge, noon; 18th-annual arm wrestling tournament, across from Circle K, 12:30 p.m.; Great Conotton Creek Duck Race, 2 p.m.; Amanda’s Dance Studio, main stage, 2 p.m.; Abby Dodds, main stage, 3 p.m.; Cindy Francis, main stage, 4 p.m.; blood drive, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.; New Towne Cloggers, 5 p.m.; kids parade, 6 p.m.; midway re-opens, 6 p.m.; Cabin Boys Plus, blue grass band, 7:30 p.m.; 7T7 classic rock and dance, 8 p.m.; and festival junior prince and princess, princess and queen crowning, main stage, 9 p.m.

There will be a Scio Garden Club Flower and Garden Show and various county organizational displays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. today through Friday and 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The Scio Museum will feature the history of Scio, the oil fields and pottery from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and Thursday, as well as 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Also, a fall festival bazaar and vendor show will be held at the R.J. Spiker Fire Hall from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday; 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday; and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday.
