Health department lists August clinics

STEUBENVILLE – The city health department is offering free and anonymous HIV testing from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday.

City Health Commissioner Patty Reda said the tests are by appointment only and interested persons should call the health department at (740) 283-6000, extensions 1503 through 1508 to schedule an appointment.

Blood pressure screenings and TB skin testing will be offered on Tuesdays in August from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Reda said STD testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia also is available by appointment only by calling (740) 283-6000, extension 1506.

“Our childhood and adult immunization clinic is held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A parent or legal guardian must accompany the child. And a record of prior immunizations must be provided before immunizations will be administered. If you are a child’s legal guardian you must present court documents on the day of service in order for the child to receive vaccinations,” said Reda.

All sixth grade students entering the seventh grade this fall are required to have a TDAP vaccination prior to the start of school year. Parents or guardians are encouraged to check their children’s shot record now to make sure it is updated. The TDAP vaccine can be administered at the health department or at a pediatrician’s office, said Reda.

“Zostavax or the shingles shot is now available at the Steubenville Health Department. Interested persons should contact the nursing division at (740) 283-6000, extensions 1506 or 1507 if you have questions,” she said.

“Please bring your Ohio Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medical Mutual of Ohio and Health America/Health Assurance insurance cards with you,” added Reda.

The city health department offices will be closed Sept. 2 in observance of Labor Day, Reda said.

The city health department is located at 119 S. Third St.
