Two arrested in house burglary

STEUBENVILLE – Two men were arrested on burglary charges early today after they were caught inside a home in the 1100 block of State Street.

City Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about flashing lights inside a home in the 1100 block of State Street around 1 a.m. today. City officers and a sheriff’s deputy surrounded the home. A deputy saw Aaron Fisher, 25, of 619 Grandview Ave. coming out a basement door. The deputy attempted to take Fisher into custody but he resisted. The deputy said he fired a Taser into Fisher, who then was taken to the ground and placed in handcuffs.

City officers searched the home and found Jonathan T. Mitchell, 26, of Rear 2409 Sunset Blvd. hiding in the basement.

Police reported a basement door was kicked open.

Fisher was charged with burglary and resisting arrest. Mitchell was charged with burglary and falsification. He also was served a bench warrant out of municipal court and a felony escape warrant. The escape warrant was filed on June 28 after Mitchell was taken to Trinity Medical Center West from the county jail, police reported. Police put a hold on Mitchell but he walked away from the hospital, according to reports.
