Police respond to shot reports

STEUBENVILLE – City Police are investigating reports of shots fired at two locations Thursday and early this morning, according to Chief William McCafferty.

Police responded Thursday afternoon to reports of gunshots in the vicinity of the 700 block of North Seventh Street. When police arrived, a group of black males fled the scene, one heading in the direction of Franklin Avenue, according to McCafferty.

A vehicle authorities suspect may have been involved in the incident was confiscated by police, but no evidence of gunfire was found, McCafferty said.

Police responded to another call of shots fired shortly after midnight today in the vicinity of Claire and Rosswell avenues.

Police arrived to find the residence at 732 Rosswell Ave. had been struck by several bullets.

Police located 15 shell casings across the street at 731 Rosswell Ave. Witnesses inside the residence at 732 Rosswell Ave. said they had no idea who fired the shots, according to reports.

No injuries were reported, and no suspects have been apprehended, the chief added.

The incident remains under investigation, according to McCafferty.
