Thunder in the Ville begins Friday
WINTERSVILLE – Area residents have the chance to celebrate the Fourth of July early this weekend during the 18th-annual Thunder in the Ville festival,
The event will begin at 5:15 p.m. Friday at Treasure Island Flea Market, with a musical performance by Friends at 6 p.m., followed by Almost Famous from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
“The opening ceremonies, including the national anthem performance by Jefferson County Commissioner Tom Graham, a speech from Mayor Bob Gale and a blessing from Monsignor Kurt Kemo will be held at 5:15 p.m. Friday,” according to event organizer, Tom Straka.
Easy Street will continue the celebration Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and then Paul Roe with Silver Eagle Band will take the stage and finish the evening, Straka noted. A number of local dance groups will perform that day as well.
The fifth-annual Street Dreams Rod and Custom Car Show is scheduled during the festival, with registration from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. The cruise begins at 6 p.m. and will feature street rods, classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars and custom cars.
“We will have a number of food vendors for the event including such fare as hot dogs, sloppy joes and steak hoagies, as well as Mexican and oriental foods,” Straka explained. “Crafters will be on hand as well as children’s carnival games. Train rides will also be available for a fee during the festival.”
The fireworks show, provided by American Fireworks, will begin at 10 p.m. Saturday.
“We hope everyone comes out to support the event this year,” Straka added. “A lot of hard work and time goes into planning this event and we would like to see a large crowd again. The fireworks are bigger and better each year. Come out to the village and celebrate the Fourth of July early.”
