Angelica to perform at Stars, Stripes event

STEUBENVILLE – Rose Angelica has come home to participate in the third-annual Stars and Stripes Concert and Festival, which will begin at noon Sunday with opening ceremonies at the Harding practice field.

In fact, Angelica will be part of the opening ceremonies when she picks up her famed trumpet to play the “Star Spangled Banner.”

“The folks from the Stars and Stripes Concert and Festival committee asked me to play at the beginning of the festival. And, they have asked me to join the entertainers Sunday evening on the big stage in Harding Stadium to again play the national anthem. It is an honor and I am excited to be part of this event,” stated Angelica.

Angelica has just returned from the Country Music Association event in Nashville where she was able to meet other entertainers and singwriters as well as promote her self-penned “Girls Just Want to Drink Beer.”

“My song is now No. 50 on the Nashville charts and I am very excited about that. My agent has told me I am reaching out to people in my age group, so I have an age 40-plus fan base. I wanted to write songs for other singers. I never wanted to perform. I am more of a songwriter. But he urged me to sing my songs and other songs and it has been a lot of fun,” Angelica related.

Angelica will be performing from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the beer corral in the Hollywood City Center Kroger store parking lot.

“I’ll be playing my hit, ‘Girls Just Want to Drink Beer,’ a Hank Williams Sr. medley, some Patsy Cline and, of course, a few Dean Martin songs and several party songs to get everyone in the mood for the concert Sunday night,” said Angelica.

“I had the chance to meet with Phil Vassar while I was in Nashville, and he is quite excited about coming to Steubenville. He knows this is Dean Martin’s hometown and he is looking forward to playing in Harding Stadium,” said Angelica.

“I like coming home to play in Steubenville. It gives my friends a chance to see me in a concert-type setting. And, it is always good to come home. I am very fortunate to be living my dream. For this little girl from Smithfield, this is all very large,” declared Angelica.

According to Bob Chapman of Choice Brands of Ohio, the beer corral will be open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will be serving a variety of refreshments including Mike’s Summer Shanty, Mike’s Classic Margauerita and Mike’s Lemonade.

“We will also have Busch beer, Bud and Bud Lite beer, Michelob Ultra as well as Yuengling and Yuengling Light,” said Chapman.

“We are honored and pleased to be part of the third-annual Stars and Stripes Concert and Festival. We have been part of this community for a very long time and are excited to be a partner in the event,” said Chapman.

The free Family Fun Zone will open from noon to 5 p.m. in the Harding practice field area.

In the evening, the focus of the event turns to Harding Stadium. The Joseph Sisters of Wheeling will take the stage at 5:30 p.m. They will be followed by the Todd Jones Band at 6:45 p.m. and headliner Phil Vassar at 8:30 p.m.

The concert will be followed by the city’s annual fireworks display at approximately 10 p.m.

Gates for the concert will open at 4:30 p.m.
