Trackside Grill open for business

WEIRTON – Adjacent to the Brooke-Hancock Veterans Memorial Park, with a view of the Weirton railyard sits the community’s newest eatery.

Trackside Grill is located at 27 Marshalling Yard Drive in the building which once was home to Scott Lumber. It is owned by Dan and Lori Milantoni.

On Wednesday, the restaurant held a grand opening along with members of the Weirton Area and Follansbee chambers of commerce.

With a name and decor reflective of the neighboring railyard, the restaurant’s menu consists primarily of burgers, sandwiches and wraps – with everything from a meatball hoagie to a fish sandwich or a reuben – as well as salads, homemade soups and six kinds of wings.

“It’s not gourmet food, but it’s good food,” Dan said, noting everything is made fresh and cut to order.

Various side dishes are available, including zucchini planks, jalapeno poppers, hand cut french fries and homemade onion rings.

Dan previously worked at Ball Corp. for 20 years, and for several of them also owned and operated a bar in the area. He left the bar about six years ago, but the desire to own a restaurant remained with him.

“My wife and I had been talking about it for a couple years,” he said.

Lori’s battle with breast cancer gave them the inspiration to take those steps, so Dan retired from his regular job and they decided to pursue the restaurant business full time.

“You chase your dream now, or you forget about it,” Lori said, noting their desire to eventually offer catering and daily specials and events, such as a wing night or pasta night.

Their goal, she said, is to have a restaurant with good, fresh food and a comfortable atmosphere where people feel welcome.

“I was lucky enough to find this spot,” he said. “I have an awesome landlord.”

They also thank their daughters, Danielle and Amanda, and their staff, Chasity Adkins, Constance Yount and Katelyn Pownall, for all their work in helping to make their dream possible.

Lori explained they also work to keep all of their business as local as possible, using area contractors and electricians in the construction, and purchasing materials from local businesses.

Trackside Grill is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with food available to eat in or take out. For information, call (304) 914-4229.
