Toronto prepares for fireworks

TORONTO – The city’s Fourth of July Committee is gearing up for its annual display celebrating the birth of the nation, with the fireworks and program set for July 6 at Clarke Hinkle Field inside the city high school stadium.

The theme for this year’s extravaganza will be “Thundering Herd,” according to R.J. Stewart, committee chairman.

“Well, it’s hard to believe, but we’re virtually nine weeks away from celebrating the birthday of this great country we live in,” said Stewart, adding the program will consist of a selection of popular classical and patriotic songs. “The celebration will begin with the Community Band at 8 p.m. and the Original Fantasy’s at 9 p.m., followed by, as always, a spectacular fireworks beginning at 10 p.m.”

Stewart said VIP seating is available by sending a donation to the Toronto Fourth of July Committee, P.O. Box 295 Toronto, OH 43964.

“VIP passes will be mailed back to the return address,” said Stewart. “Posters will be distributed to all local businesses that have continued to support the event. We would encourage everyone to support the businesses, for without them and our great local citizens that donate, this event wouldn’t be possible.”

Also, any vendor or groups interested in selling items at the event should contact Joann Barnes at (740) 537-2682.

“Every year we have several volunteers,” said Stewart, adding those who wish to volunteer should call him at (740) 632-1926.
